Okay so I've got a bit of a worry with my 2017 S3 and I'm hoping someone here has been through something similar. I first noticed it a couple of weeks ago, this faint whining or humming sound that seems to come from the transmission area, especially when I'm cruising at steady speeds around 60-80 km/h. It's not super loud or anything, but now that I've heard it I can't unhear it and it's driving me crazy. The car still shifts fine and there's no jerking or hesitation, but that noise definitely wasn't there before and I'm concerned it's the early stages of something more serious developing. I've been doing the usual internet deep dive and it seems like it could be anything from low fluid levels to worn bearings or even the dreaded mechatronic unit starting to fail. I checked the fluid level myself but honestly it's such a pain on these cars with the whole temperature and leveling procedure that I'm not entirely confident I did it right. I'm thinking I should just take it to a specialist before it potentially turns into a much bigger and more expensive problem. Has anyone here experienced a similar whining noise and what did it end up being? Any advice or shared experiences would be massively appreciated right now because I'm probably overthinking this but I'd rather be safe than sorry.
